UAE company setup: frequently asked questions
Clear answers about company formation, costs, visas and banking for foreign and UAE-based founders.
Can a foreign founder own a UAE company?
Free zones allow 100% foreign ownership. Many mainland activities also allow full foreign ownership, but requirements depend on the activity and legal structure. Confirm eligibility before choosing your setup.
Which setup is right for my business?
Your activity, customers, workspace and visa requirements determine the suitable options. Free zones are often suited to consulting, online and international businesses. A local retail or commercial presence may require mainland licensing or additional approvals.
How much does company setup cost?
Eligible free zone configurations start from as low as AED 5,750. This is an indicative starting amount, not a fixed price for a named free zone. Your total depends on the licence, registration, workspace, visas and required approvals. Review your itemised quote before proceeding.
Can I incorporate from outside the UAE?
Many free zone applications can be managed online from abroad. Requirements vary by authority and activity. Residence visa medical tests, Emirates ID biometrics and bank account opening require an in-person UAE visit.
How long does incorporation take?
Timing depends on the authority, activity, completeness of your documents and any external approvals. Licence issuance and residence visa processing are separate stages. Confirm the expected schedule for your configuration before booking travel.
Which documents will I need?
Typically, you will need passport copies, a photograph and information about the shareholders and business activity. Existing UAE visa documents, proof of address or additional approvals may also be required. Your selected setup determines the final checklist.
Are residence visas included automatically?
No. Select visas only when you need them. Visa availability must be confirmed for your setup under current authority rules. An application with zero visas should not include residence visa costs.
Can I open a UAE bank account remotely?
Opening a UAE bank account requires an in-person UAE visit. Banking introductions do not guarantee approval. Each bank assesses your activity, ownership, residency, source of funds and business profile.
Does a free zone company automatically pay no corporate tax?
No. Qualifying Free Zone Persons may benefit from 0% on qualifying income subject to conditions. Other income can be taxable, and registration and filing obligations can still apply. Seek qualified tax advice for your specific business.
What happens after the company is registered?
You receive the company documents issued by the authority. Depending on your selections, the next steps can include immigration registration, visa applications and banking introductions. Plan for ongoing licence renewal, workspace costs and compliance obligations.
